NLU Delhi Students Hold ‘Reclaiming Public Spaces’ Solidarity March for Women’s Safety

30 September 2026, National Law University Delhi

In the wake of agitation for women’s safety across the national capital, students of National Law University Delhi stood up for a solidarity march for “Reclaiming Public Spaces”. Held in the evening hours on 30 September 2026, the solidarity march saw a large student turnout across the B.A.LLB (Hons.) and the LLM Batches, along with a supportive participation of faculty members.

The students marched around the campus with posters carrying messages on gender equality, social satires and pledges for anti-discrimination. Slogans for gender equality, women’s safety and freedom from patriarchy were raised within the campus as a means of demonstration.

Later, Kushal Pal Singh , IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, along with Sunil Kumar, SHO, Dwarka, addressed the students’ concerns. Female students raised persistent complaints about absence of street lights, lack of a woman POC, and the need for patrolling around the campus which is straddled by dark streets. Problems related to a liquor shop around the campus, which constrains access to the nearest metro station ( Dwarka Sector 14) were also raised.

Although no final accountability for the street lights was reached, the SHO assured students of setting up a police booth abutting the campus by 15th October 2026 and guaranteed patrolling around the campus, including the adjacent parks and roads.

To conclude the march, the students undertook a walk around the campus streets, switching on their mobile flashlights to combat the darkness of the streets. As the collective demonstrations for women’s safety and freedom continue to demand accountability across Delhi, members of NLU Delhi community remain committed to the cause.
