The Chair on Consumer Law and Practice (CLAP), National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, is organising its 1st Online Moot Court Competition on Consumer Law and Practice 2026. Registration is open until October 15, 2026.
About NLSIU
CLAP was established at NLSIU in August 2008 by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
The Chair works in the areas of consumer law and consumer protection through research, teaching, training, policy engagement and related academic activities.
About the Competition
The competition will focus on contemporary issues in consumer protection law and will involve both written memorials and oral advocacy. It will be conducted entirely online. The moot proposition was released on September 28, 2026.
The competition begins with memorial evaluation. The eight teams securing the highest combined marks for their Petitioner/Complainant and Respondent/Opposite Party memorials will qualify for the Octa-Finals.
From the Octa-Finals onwards, advancement will be based on the marks obtained in the respective oral rounds.
Eligibility
The competition is open to students currently enrolled in a B.A. LL.B. or LL.B. programme.
Both members of a team must be from the same college or university. Only one team from each institution may participate. Each team must consist of two members.
Mode
The competition will be conducted entirely online. However, the Winning Team and Runner-Up must travel to New Delhi for the declaration of results and prize distribution on December 24, 2026. They must also make their own travel arrangements.
How to Register?
Interested teams must complete the following steps:
- Pay the registration fee through the payment link provided on the official competition page.
- Fill in the registration form (attached at the end of the post) with the details of both team members.
- Upload a clear copy of the payment receipt.
- Upload an authorisation letter issued by the participating college or university.
- Retain the payment receipt and registration confirmation for future reference.
Registration will be considered complete only after the registration form, payment receipt and authorisation letter have been submitted within the prescribed deadline.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is Rs. 2,000 per team.
Deadline
The last date for registration and fee payment is October 15, 2026.
Memorial Submission Guidelines
- Each team must prepare two memorials. One for the Petitioner/Complainant and one for the Respondent/Opposite Party.
- The Arguments Advanced section of each memorial must not exceed 3,000 words. A 10% tolerance over the prescribed limit is permitted.
- Memorials must be submitted in PDF format and should identify the participants only by their allotted team code. No physical copies are required.
- The organisers will screen memorials for plagiarism and AI-generated content. Similarity or AI-content scores exceeding 10% may attract penalties, while scores exceeding 15% may result in disqualification.
- The rules permit only limited, incidental use of AI tools, such as for grammar or language checks, rather than substantive drafting. Teams should read the complete memorial rules before submission.
Prizes
- Winning Team: Rs. 20,000 + Certificate of Excellence
- Runner-Up Team: Rs. 15,000 + Certificate of Excellence
Participating teams and speakers will also be eligible for participation or achievement certificates, as applicable. Results will be declared and prizes distributed in New Delhi on National Consumer Rights Day.

Late memorial submissions are subject to a deduction of 1.5 marks per team, per side, for each day of delay during the permitted late-submission window.
