Scandal Plagued Florida GOP Rep. Mills Ousted in Primary

Alrighty. Once again, Florida shows it’s efficient at counting votes and hands out results in a timely manner.

So we have everything from Florida. California and Alaska? We’ll probably have to wait until next month.

Cory Mills

Former news anchor Ryan Elijah ousted Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) in the primary to represent Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

Mills is the only incumbent to lose on Tuesday night.

Investigations have bogged down Mills, leading several colleagues to demand he drop out of the race. In May, the Ethics Committee confirmed it authorized over 20 subpoenas and contacted numerous witnesses over allegations of dating violence and violating campaign finance laws.

Elijah will face Bale Dalton in November.

Unfortunately, the once safe red seat is now viewed as a “likely” win for the GOP.

The Republicans have a slim majority in the House, which means the party has to hold onto this seat.

Jared Moskowitz

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz easily fended off a DSA-backed challenger:

Moskowitz, one of the most prominent Jewish Democrats in the House of Representatives, will face Republican former Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer Nov. 3 for the right to represent a district whose boundaries were recently redrawn by Florida legislators to favor the GOP.

The defeat by Moskowitz, 45, of union organizer Oliver Larkin follows mixed results for progressives in this month’s contests, with Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Senate primary followed by Francesca Hong’s defeat in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race.

With 91% of the expected vote in, Moskowitz (D-Fla.) had 63.5% support, easily outstripping Larkin’s 36.5%.

Markowitz has been one of the few Democrats to condemn members of his party for calling Israel’s defense after October 7 a genocide.

The incumbent refused to debate Larkin, saying, “I’m not going to platform him. He’s running against me solely on my religion.”

The GOP could potentially pick up Moskowitz’s seat, though, since it’s rated as a toss-up.

Wasserman Schultz

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz won her primary in Florida’s majority-Black 20th Congressional District. She also defeated four Black candidates.

Wasserman Schultz faced tons of criticism for her choice.

Yeah, um, Wasserman Schultz had no problem winning the primary.
