College of Central Florida students speak out after bomb threat prompts Campus evacuation
The College of Central Florida campus is back open after a bomb threat prompted an evacuation Friday and led to a law enforcement response.
Students and staff were told to leave campus while authorities investigated and searched the area. Officials later said no bombs or suspicious devices were found.
For some students, the incident was unsettling — particularly for those who say they learned about the threat through social media.
Laura Fenton said she arrived on campus Friday to take an English test when she found the campus closed.
“I showed up here to take a test for my English class and everything was shut down,” Fenton said. “Nobody let me know. I wasn’t emailed or anything. I wasn’t told.”
Fenton said she searched for information online after returning home and checked again Saturday morning to make sure campus had reopened before returning to class.
Other students posted online that they received alerts through the school’s public safety emergency notification system.
Fenton said the experience has made her reconsider how safe she feels on campus.
“Do I feel safe? I don’t really know anymore, honestly,” Fenton said.
