While some Democratic candidates are appearing to moderate on transgender ideology to get through their election in a Republican state, the Washington Democrats are standing firm.
The state party leadership recently attacked a group called Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender (DIAG). The latter opposes men competing in women’s sports and wants kids protected from life-altering drugs and surgeries.
Washington State Chair Shasti Conrad recently condemned every Democrat in the state who is participating in a DIAG chapter.
“There is no place for hate in Washington state,” Conrad (pictured) stated in a news release. “Our transgender community deserves the same safety and welcome in the Democratic Party as anyone else and I call upon this viciously anti-trans organization to cease using our Party as cover for their hate-filled agenda.”
She accused DIAG of “meddling” in state politics.
There are currently two initiatives on the ballot this November that deal with transgender ideology. IL26-001 is a parental rights initiative that ensures parents are informed when their kids begin identifying as transgender. It also affirms their right to review school curriculum.
Another initiative, IL26-638, prohibits males from competing in women’s sports.
Conrad demanded the state chapters stop calling themselves Democrats.
“Washington Democrats call upon each chapter to immediately cease using the Party name in their organization title,” the news release concludes.
In response, DIAG says it does not need the party’s approval to use the name Democrats. It fought a similar issue in 2024 against Colorado Democrats.
The group is currently fighting a legal battle against Illinois, which gives the state party veto power over any organization that seeks to use the name “Democrats.”
DIAG says polling is on its side and challenged Washington Democrats to engage in an open debate.
“Polls show a majority of Democratic voters support the preservation of women-only sports and believe parents must be fully informed on important decisions regarding their child’s health,” the group stated in a news release. “Does the Washington State Democratic Party really believe these voters should be excluded from the party?
In recent weeks, some Democrats have moderated their public position on transgender ideology in an attempt to get elected in a Republican state. The sincerity of their views remains in doubt.
“I do not support boys playing in girls sports. This is already settled law in Ohio, and as governor I will enforce and uphold the law,” Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton said. “As a doctor, public servant, and a mom, I will always stand up for fairness and protect kids’ health and safety.”
And Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, who has a favorite drag queen, has said there are six genders and claimed God is “non-binary,” also has tried to change his tune.
Talarico recently told Fox News he opposes transgender surgeries (but not drugs) for minors.
However, he voted against legislation to prohibit the drugs and surgeries while serving in the Texas statehouse.
