Gender Studies Program at U. Wisconsin–Whitewater Enrolls Six Students

Gender studies programs may be a thing of the past before we know it.

Campus Reform reports:

UW–Whitewater gender studies degrees enroll only six students

The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater enrolled only six undergraduate students across its Women’s and Gender Studies degree programs during the fall 2025 semester.

An archived copy of the university’s December 2025 enrollment report lists five students in the Women’s and Gender Studies Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) program and one in the Bachelor of Science (B.S.). The data represent the most recent public report of degree program enrollment.

UW–Whitewater had an undergraduate enrollment of 10,743 students in fall 2025, while the university welcomed its largest freshman class in a decade. The six students listed in the Women’s and Gender Studies B.A. and B.S. programs represent 0.06 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Other identity-based programs at the university are experiencing low enrollment, according to the document. The data shows that seven students were enrolled in the Diversity Leadership Certificate, 14 students in the LGBTQ Studies Certificate, and 29 in the Women’s and Gender Studies Certificate.

The Diversity Leadership Certificate is described as “designed to allow students, across the disciplines, to engage in in-depth diversity learning around issues of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and ability.”

Students in the LGBTQ Studies Certificate program will “examine how gender, gender identity, and sexuality interact with ethnicity, race, class, and ability while exploring contemporary, cross-cultural, and historical issues related to LGBTQ lives.”

Both certificates require students to take four courses (12 credits).
