Hundreds Arrested as Students Riot Across France, Setting Schools on Fire

French security officials have arrested over 632 people, mostly students, in two days as riots spread across the country.

The students started rioting over supposed horrid school conditions, including “staffing shortages, dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classes, government budget cuts and long schedules.”

I found numerous videos online, but it’s hard to authenticate them. Many of the videos concentrate on the second or third generation migrant students, but I’ve seen plenty with native French students.

The protests started last week, but spiraled into riots this week. Rioters have set fire to trash bins and blocked off schools.

France24 reported that regional authorities have said the riots have left several principals injured (emphasis mine):

Among reports of school staff being targeted was one incident in the southern port city of Marseille when a school principal and his deputy were splashed with petrol. A journalist with TV channel M6 was attacked at the same school, local officials said.

In the northwestern city of Nantes, firefighters had to intervene to extinguish a fire in the entrance of a high school “following a gathering marked by violence towards staff”, the regional education board said.

Authorities reported violence near high schools, mainly in Nantes, blaming “violent individuals” who “join the students to carry out acts of vandalism”.

Catch that last line? Violent individuals.

According to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, “in certain places, there were individuals acting as agitators — people who moved from one school to another to stir up high school and other students and incite them to commit acts of violence.”

It’s also interesting since I’ve also seen claims that the far-left La France Insoumise (LFI) Party has propped up these riots and even attended them:

School fires and riots spread across all of France

Young second- and third-generation migrant rioters are setting high schools on fire.

In many of France’s cities, riots are being propped up by far-left pro-migrationist LFI officials, who are physically present at the scene.

At least 202 people have been injured, of whom 119 are students and teachers. All 96 French departments have reported at least one school incident.

The protests have now spread across the whole country.
