President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s latest proposal for a temporary ceasefire in return for U.S. sanctions relief.
“They made a proposal, but I reject it,” he told reporters at the White House. “They want to make a deal to open the Hormuz Strait immediately because they’re losing so badly.”
Pointing to the U.S. military’s firm control over the strategic waterway, President Trump declared that the U.S. was “winning tremendously.”
“They want to make a deal and I think that’s fine, I like making a deal, too. What they want to do is immediately open the Hormuz Strait … because they have no money coming in, because they get their money from the Hormuz Strait,” he added.
The Iranian regime wanted the U.S. to lift the sanctions without agreeing to give up its nuclear weapons program. “Earlier this week, Iran’s foreign minister offered a proposal to implement a seven-day ceasefire, reopen the strait and restart talks with the U.S. aimed at reaching a final nuclear deal,” CBS News reported.

President Trump may be correct in assuming that his ‘Operation Economic Outcast,’ designed to cut off Iran’s economic lifeline, is pushing the regime to the verge of a financial collapse. According to the AP News, Iran had offered the weeklong ceasefire “if the U.S. lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports, waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales and observes a ceasefire that would include Lebanon.”
In late August, the U.S. Treasury Department unleashed the “Economic D-Day” against Tehran, rolling out a sweeping campaign to sever the regime’s global commercial and financial access.
Earlier today, President Trump signaled that the U.S. will only accept the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program. He clearly does not want to get bogged down in protracted nuclear talks like the previous Obama and Biden administrations.

News reports indicate that the Iranian regime refuses to abandon its nuclear program, despite its public calls for a ceasefire and sanctions relief. “A senior Iranian official asserted that Tehran will show no flexibility regarding its nuclear programme or uranium enrichment rights, confirming the strait will remain closed until all Iranian conditions are met,” The Independent (UK) reported Saturday.
