Captured Hamas Spy Chief Helps Israel Take Out Three Senior Terror Commanders

Hamas’s overall intelligence chief, captured by Israel in early September, has been providing valuable intelligence that has facilitated the elimination of the terrorist group’s three senior field commanders. Muin al-Arabid, who ran Hamas’s intelligence operations in Gaza, “gave Israel tremendous intelligence which has helped create a spike in locating and assassinating other top Hamas officials, funds, and weapons,” the Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.

Al-Arabid, described by officials as an “intelligence gold mine,” was nabbed by Israeli special forces after months of surveillance by Israel’s Shin Bet security agency.

Nearly a week after the Hamas spy chief’s arrest, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of Rafah Brigade (Southern Gaza) and Jabaliya Battalion (Northern Gaza). On Tuesday, the IDF revealed that Izz al-Din Bik, commander of Hamas’s Northern Gaza Brigade, has been taken out in an airstrike.

The killing of these experienced field commanders disrupts the terrorist group’s efforts to rebuild its jihadist fighting force and restore its infrastructure. Hamas’s Northern Gaza Brigade commander, Izz al-Din Bik, “operated to restore the brigade’s force buildup, which had suffered severe damage throughout the war,” the IDF confirmed.

All three of them have been eliminated based on information given by the captured Hamas spy chief, Israeli media confirmed. “The IDF and Shin Bet on Tuesday confirmed the overnight assassination of Hamas Northern Gaza Brigade Chief Izz al-Din al-Bik in Gaza City,” the Jerusalem Post added. “This is the third assassination of a Hamas brigade chief since September 11, meaning that three out of the five brigade commanders have been killed during that period.”

The capture of the Hamas intelligence chief unfolded like a spy thriller, with Shin Bet security service agents tracking him for days before executing his extraction in an intense gunfight.

Israel’s Ynetnews noted that his capture “involved days of preparations, disguised vehicles, a raid on a Gaza City villa, a close-range firefight and heavy Israeli air cover during the withdrawal.”

The news website added that “Shin Bet had tracked al-Arabid for an extended period, studying his daily routine and the routes he used until intelligence officers identified what they believed was a vulnerability.”

The Gaza-based spy chief, celebrated as a hero by pro-Hamas social media accounts, turned on his terrorist paymaster shortly after entering Israeli custody. Two days after his arrest, The Times of Israel confirmed that “al-Arabid is cooperating with interrogators and providing what is described as valuable information on the terror group’s weapons, personnel and infrastructure in Gaza.”

It is also worth noting that last week the Israeli security forces scored their biggest success against Hamas’s terror financing network. Last Wednesday, the IDF announced the elimination of Hamas’s “finance department chief,” Muhammad Abu Alwan. The killing of Abu Alwan marked the culmination of a three-year-long operation against the terrorist group’s financing network, the military disclosed. According to the Israeli media, he ran a billion-dollar funding network to bankroll terror attacks against Israel.
