Last week (9 September) Consilio announced a formal partnership with Legora, assisting in-house legal teams and law firms with implementation, governance, workflow, training and adoption.

Consilio, which is best known as an eDiscovery provider, also offers services including document review, flexible legal talent, and transformation consulting services. The company, which reports annual revenues of $1bn has been working with Legora for over a year prior to the formal announcement.
Andy Macdonald, CEO of Consilio, told Legal IT Insider that Consilio will help in-house teams and law firms integrate Legora into existing matters and workflows. The company will also provide workflow design and assist with integration, governance and training to help teams adopt faster and more effectively. The company is building teams of legal and technical talent to meet demand in this space, with Macdonald commenting, “Eighteen months ago, I could get someone who had the legal and tech skills in a single body but they’re hard to find now, so we’re building teams that have a little bit of both.”

Consilio has also been delivering client work using Legora for over a year, so is familiar with the full suite of its capabilities across research, drafting and document review. The relationship is not exclusive: LOD, which is owned by Consilio, has a formal partnership with legal AI company Wordsmith. For Macdonald, it is important to be able to work with clients on the tools they are using, and he says: “If I were to go exclusive, I would then have probably have two-thirds of my clients who would be unhappy with me.”
Macdonald estimates that this sort of integration work accounts for less than 10% of Consilio’s revenues, but it is a part of the business that is growing. Speaking about his personal AI use, Macdonald admits: “The amount of times I use AI tools today versus January, is probably at least 50 times more, but I don’t know that I’m any more efficient.” This is exactly the challenge Consilio is looking to solve for clients at an organisational level by making sure tools are embedded properly.
