Pretty much all of the credit for this should go to Ron DeSantis.

Florida defends top spot in ‘Education Freedom Report Card’ for fifth consecutive year

Florida defended its first-place ranking for the fifth consecutive year in the Heritage Foundation’s annual “Education Freedom Report Card.”

The report card features an interactive map of all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C., along with their respective scores. Florida took first place, while Maine came in 51st.

President of the Heritage Foundation Dr. Kevin Roberts said in a Sept. 21 press release that “In the backdrop of the Trump administration working to wind down the U.S. Department of Education, states like Florida and Iowa have met the moment by reclaiming more education responsibilities, which our nation’s Founders always intended, and providing families with more education choice.”

“More states need to provide families with K-12 education savings account programs that allow them to choose learning environments that align with their values and work best for their children,” Roberts continued.

The report card details that Florida also ranked first in education choice and transparency categories.

Regarding education choice, the Heritage Foundation’s report says Florida tops all other states in enabling families to choose which schools to send their children. This includes private, charter, and district institutions.

On transparency, the report states that “Florida lawmakers set a high standard for academic transparency and rejected critical race theory’s pernicious ideas in 2022.”
