IDF Blows Up Underground Hezbollah Base Beneath Lebanon’s Ali Taher Ridge

A week after capturing Hezbollah’s main stronghold in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has destroyed the massive terrorist tunnel complex. Carved up just 10 miles from the Israeli border, the Ali al-Taher Ridge tunnels served as Hezbollah’s “nerve center” in southern Lebanon.

“Following extensive preparatory activity, IDF troops dismantled the underground infrastructure in the Ali al-Taher Ridge area,” the military announced late Thursday. “This was strategic infrastructure that was constructed over two decades, funded and planned by the Iranian terror regime.”

The initial blast and secondary explosions, caused by stored Hezbollah ammunition and explosives, were powerful enough to be registered on the Richter scale. “Later on Thursday, Army Radio cited Lebanese reports as saying that the country registered a magnitude 4.1 earthquake following the detonation,” the Jerusalem Post reported. “The underground terrorist infrastructure extended for more than two kilometers. Troops found dozens of Iranian-made rockets, missiles, and UAVs inside, along with machine guns, dozens of anti-tank missiles, and hundreds of mines and explosive devices.”

Lebanese state media talked of a “massive explosion” resulting in “tremors and a powerful rumble” in the nearby area. Reuters reported that the IDF “carried out a powerful blast at the ridge, with tremors and the sound of the explosion felt across Nabatieh and surrounding areas.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement acknowledging that “the IDF has now destroyed the underground infrastructure of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the Ali Taher ridge, thereby completing the consolidation of the security zone in southern Lebanon.”

More than a mile-long subterranean terror complex, built over a span of two decades, was established to execute the “Conquest of the Galilee” plan, Hezbollah’s own blueprint for an October 7-style massacre. “The terror infrastructure and the command center on the ridge were designed to serve as the staging base for the conquest of the Galilee, and had observation and fire dominance over Metula and Kiryat Shmona,” the statement said. “Their destruction completes the achievement of operational control over the Ali Taher ridge – above and below ground.”

The IDF spokesman Brig. General Effie Defrin on Thursday observed Hezbollah’s failure to mount a counter-offensive despite hollow public declarations to rescue its cornered terrorists and Iranian instructors. “In recent months, our troops encircled the area and increased the pressure on the tunnels and the terrorists who had entrenched themselves inside them,” he said. “Despite Hezbollah’s declaration that it would defend the infrastructure at any cost, it failed and even abandoned its personnel to die inside.”

In a moving message, the Brig. General Defrin recalled the ” heavy cost” paid to achieve the mission. “Our soldiers, the finest of our sons, the best of us, fell in the battles to gain control of and clear the ridge,” he said. “These were soldiers who operated with a sense of mission, courage, and a deep commitment to defending the northern communities.”
