Israel Targets Hamas Terror Chief Al-Amoudi in Gaza Strike

Almost two years after Hamas’s Gaza chief Yahya Sinwar was eliminated, Israel targeted his successor, Ali Ahmed Al-Amoudi, in a precision strike.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday night “carried out an overnight strike on an apartment in Gaza in an attempt to kill Ali al-Amoudi,” Reuters reported. “Hamas sources said al-Amoudi leads the Hamas political office in Gaza.”

“Overnight (Saturday), the IDF and [Shin Bet security agency] carried out a strike in an attempt to eliminate the terrorist Ali Ahmed Al-Amoudi, the deputy chairman of the political bureau in the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip,” the military confirmed in a statement. “The strike was carried out while the terrorist was in an apartment used by the Hamas terrorist organization for terror activities.”

The IDF described Al-Amoudi as “the most senior Hamas figure in the Gaza Strip” and as being “directly involved in Hamas’s terror activities and in rebuilding the organization for war.”

Convicted murderer Ali al-Amoudi was released from an Israeli prison in 2011 alongside Yahya Sinwar and 1,025 other Palestinian terrorists and convicts in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. According to The Times of Israel, “in 1993, Amoudi was involved in the murder of four Israelis in the West Bank, and in 1994, was involved in an incident in Ramallah in which Shin Bet agent Noam-Menachem Cohen was killed.”

“The terrorist Al-Amoudi served as Yahya Sinwar’s right-hand man and personal assistant and was involved in the decision-making surrounding the October 7th Massacre,” the IDF said. “In the past, he took part in the Judea and Samaria terror attack in which four Israelis were murdered in 1993 and in the killing of ISA officer Noam-Menahem Cohen, who fell during operational activity in Ramallah in 1994.”

Highlighting Al-Amoudi’s rise since Sinwar’s elimination on October 16, 2024, the Jerusalem Post wrote:

A leadership vacuum emerged after Sinwar was killed in October 2024. Several surviving senior Hamas officials then assumed control of the Strip, led by Amoudi, who became the enclave’s de facto leader while remaining absent from the public’s awareness.

He formally took over the position in July.

The news follows reports that Hamas’s spy chief, Mu’in al-Arabid, who was captured by Israeli special forces in Gaza City in early September, provided the intelligence that helped the IDF locate and eliminate several terrorist field commanders. Israel’s Ynetnews reported:

If the reports are accurate, the strike would mark a continuation of the IDF’s campaign targeting senior Hamas officials in recent weeks. The most recent senior figure killed was Hamas’ commander in northern Gaza, Izz al-Din Bik, who was killed in a strike on an apartment in Gaza City on Tuesday. On Wednesday of the previous week, Mohammed Abu Alwan, the head of Hamas’ finance department, was also killed. During the war, he managed to transfer more than 1 billion shekels to finance the terrorist organization’s activities in Gaza. A week and a half earlier, Hamas’ Rafah Brigade commander, Nael Abu Obeid, was killed in a drone strike.
