PE-backed firm Orwins widens footprint with double law firm deal

Fast-growing UK private equity-backed law firm Orwins today (1 September) announced a significant investment into the Yorkshire law firm Milners and the acquisition of Roe Lawyers, a boutique criminal, white collar and regulatory law firm based in central London.

Milners and Roe Lawyers both become part of the Manchester headquartered Orwins group and follow its investment into Clarkslegal in Reading and Clarke Mairs in Newcastle in May and July this year.

The private equity company behind Orwins is Aliter Capital, which first invested in Manchester-based BBS Law in October 2024 and then Carter Bond in August 2025. The firm rebranded as Orwins in May 2026.

Orwins now has over 250 staff and combined revenues of £34m. The firm says it is targeting revenues of over £50 million as it continues to scale through organic growth and further strategic investments.

Dov Black, chief executive of Orwins, said: “Over many years, Milners has earned a strong and established reputation in the Yorkshire community. Alongside this, we were particularly impressed by Milners’ personable and flexible approach to client relationships which closely reflects the way we work at Orwins. That shared outlook and strong cultural alignment give us great confidence in what we can achieve together.

“We are also delighted to welcome Stephanie Roe and her team to Orwins, bringing specialist crime and regulatory services into the group as a further area of expertise.”

The current partners at Milners are remaining with the firm and will become shareholders in Orwins. Stephanie Roe will also become a shareholder in Orwins.

Private equity acquisitions enable law firm to free themselves from the partnership model that makes – for one thing – investment in technology complicated. Other examples include Lawfront, which is backed by Blixt Group.
