TalkingTech podcast: AI’s biggest legal challenge isn’t the technology. It’s the data

In our latest TalkingTech podcast, Legal IT Insider’s editor Caroline Hill sits down with Morae Global’s chief strategy officer Mathew Crocker to unpack Morae’s latest research into AI adoption, set against the conversations that Crocker is having with customers.

The new research from Morae shows that in the industry’s high speed AI journey, there is a serious data integrity barrier and a governance gap, among many other findings that we dive into during the discussion.

Crocker is a well-known figure in the industry from both his many years at Morae but also his time as CEO and co-founder of Phoenix Business Solutions, acquired by Morae in 2019.

We chat about the fact that most law firms are focusing on legal AI solutions, with less thought given about what those solutions are being fed. We look at data strategies and the data issues that are causing trust and adoption challenges. Without trust, there is a “verification tax” that is eating ROI.

The pressure on law firms to move quickly is coming from clients  but they are also (the survey shows) really worried about their data being misused. We discuss some of the competing pressures that law firms are under.
